Today is Mission Sunday - "Mission Sunday is important in the life of the Church. Mission cannot be left to a group of 'specialists'. It is a matter for all Christians, dioceses, parishes, Church institutions and associations.to pray for and encourage offerings for the missions" (Pope John Paul II). Please be as generous as possible in the Propagation of the Faith Collection, which will be sent in its entirety to the Missions.
MISSION IS SHARING
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith was founded in 1822 by a French laywoman. Pauline Jaricot. She wished to help not only French missions and missionaries but also all missions and missionaries, especially the poorest. In 1922 it became the primary organisation of the Church for helping the missions under the patronage of the Pope. Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday in 1926 and ordered that it be observed in all Churches, including those in mission territories.

Unfortunately, the news of the bishop's death was wrong! His family then got him appointed to Cork and Cloyne. A rival denied him this also. Thaddeus pleaded his case before the Pope and won. On his way home, he died at Ivrea, aged 37. The local bishop has a vision of a young bishop being welcomed into heaven, and realised Thaddeus was the one he dreamed of. Thaddeus was buried at the Cathedral of Ivrea and is venerated there still. Thaddeus, you tried to do God's will in difficult times: pray for us!
