Local Notes

St. Mary's Church, Clonmany.

Next Sunday is Mission Sunday. "Two thousand years since the start of Mission, there are still vast geographical, cultural, human and social areas which have not yet been penetrated by Christ and His Gospel" (Pope John Paul II). Support the missionary activity of the Church by prayer, offering of suffering and a generous financial contribution.

Perhaps the following words are appropriate:
Choose to love - rather than hate.
Choose to smile - rather than frown.
Choose to build - rather than destroy.
Choose to persevere - rather than quit.
Choose to heal - rather than wound.
Choose to give - rather than take.
Choose to act - rather than delay.
Choose to pray - rather than despair.
Choose to forgive - rather than curse.
And finally:
We should always try to be constructive and positive, rather than destructive and negative.

How often have I been ungrateful to you, Father, by not saying 'Thank You' when you have been my help in difficulties. Forgive me and I thank you for all that you have done for me

St. Teresa of Avila: As a young person, Teresa wasn't all that interested in religion. She preferred romantic novels and beautiful clothes. When she entered the convent, it was like a club for young women, filled with gossip, games and good food. After 20 years, Teresa wanted more. She yearned for a place where the real Carmelite life would be lived - with prayer, silence and fasting. She set about creating such a place herself. As well as being a reformer, Teresa wrote books on the spiritual life. She was the first woman to be known as a doctor of the Church. Teresa, fearless woman and wise teacher, pray for us!
