Back to School - This is a very exciting week for pupils throughout the parish. Starting in a new school or class is a nervous time for all concer- ned - pupils, parents and teachers. Magheramore Mass Rock: Mass will be celebrated at Magheramore Mass Rock on Sun. Sept. 3 at 9am. This will take the place of the 9am. Mass in St. Mary's Church. (weather permitting)

Pope's Intentions for September: That scientists and the academic world may find in the search for the truth the way to God and to respect the heavenly Father. That relationships between Muslims and Christians may be marked by mutual understanding and respect.

Collections: Parish collection last weekend amounted to £1,327. Church Restoration Fund amounted to £1,138. Thank you for your generosity to both collections.

October Stations: We would appreciate someone in the following areas to volunteer to host the October Station Mass -

Lough Derg: Celebrate Jubilee Year with One Day Retreat at Lough Derg. A limited number of places still available for Sept. 9/11/16/18/23. Cost £12 includes boat fare and light lunch. No fasting or walking barefoot required. Advance booking essential, contact Linda / Maureen at 072-61518.

Parochial Bingo: in St. Mary's Hall on Friday night at 9pm. Snowball £1,000 on 48 numbers or less. Your support at the parochial bingo is very much appreciated.

Clonmany Medical Centre, Cleagh: Booster Vaccinations recommended for all children starting Primary school. Available free of charge from Medical Centre. Ring 76173 for an appointment.

Parish Catechist Training Course: Derry Diocese is beginning a two-year distance learning course for parish Catechists. It will provide trained adults to support religious education in our parishes. The course begins on Sat. Sept. 30 in St. Eunan's College, Letterkenny. If interested, contact Fr. Farrell or Fr. Devlin.

Irish Dancing: Classes re-open in St. Mary's Hall, Clonmany on Tues. Sept. 12 - please note date. New beginners - please contact 76356.

Clan Clonmany: A one day/night demonstration and advice on skin care/make up will take place in the Day Centre on Tues. Sept 12 at 8pm. and in The Strand Hotel on Wed. Sept 13 at 10:30am. Cost £3 per session. For further information, tel. 76193 / 76636.

Raffle: Ballyliffin Village Renewal - Prizes £500, £200 & £100. A member of committee or authorised person will collect any outstanding stubs on Wed. Sept. 6 and Thurs. Sept. 7 for Raffle in The Strand Hotel on Fri. Sept 8 at 10pm. If you require any more tickets, these may be obtained from The Strand Hotel. Remember, "if you are not in, you cannot win!".

The Derry Branch of the Samaritans is currently seeking to recruit new volunteers. An open/information evening will be held on Tues. Sept. 5 at 7:30pm. in the Centre at 16 Clarendon Street. During the evening opportunities will be provided to learn about the work of The Samaritans, to meet current volunteers and ask questions. A cup of tea will be provided.

Mental Health Association: Annual Church Gate Collection will be taken up next weekend Sept. 9 & 10, after all Masses. This helps towards the day-to-day running of the Day Centre.

Foyle Hospice invites you to take part in Ireland's biggest coffee morning on Thurs. Sept. 21 to help raise funds. The idea behind Ireland's biggest coffee morning is very simple. The Hospice asks individual hosts and companies to invite friends and colleagues for coffee. For each cup of coffee served they ask for a donation of £1. The Hospice need as many people as possible to join as Coffee Morning Hosts. Gatherings of any size are more than welcome - from 2 - 2000 and can be held anywhere - at home, in clubs, schools, workplaces, the possibilities are endless. A pack containing Bewleys coffee, posters, guest invitations, host guidelines and collection box will be sent to all hosts.
