The Transfiguration of the Lord- Sunday 6th August 2000
The Gospel of the Transfiguration is meant to teach us that not only through suffering and death will there be resurrection and glory. Without effort, nothing worthwhile in life will be achieved. Athletes will vouch for it. This lesson can encourage people who are going through difficulties to keep making the effort - couples struggling with marriage, people who are lonely or feel isolated, those coping with a recent death. The apostles, Like ourselves, were caught up in the hum-drum of everyday life with issues like who was the greatest among them. They lost sight of the end to which they were called. We, too, like Peter, James and John, have to realise that same message. At times it can be a bitter pill to swallow. Before every Easter Sunday comes a Good Friday.
